Some current obstetric and gynaecological problems.
It has never been right to practise obstetrics and gynaecology in a purely mechanistic style. Medical practitioners have always discussed and argued, often driven by their patients, both the ethical framework and the individual circumstantial detail of practice within this specialty. متن کاملCepheids as Distance Indicators: Some Current Problems
A general review is given of the calibration of the Cepheid distance scale, with particular reference to its use in the determination of H0. Emphasis is placed on the advantage of using a galactic calibration of the Cepheid scale, rather than relying on an adopted distance to the LMC. It is then possible to use LMC data to test for possible metallicity effects on this scale.

EXPECTATIONS of discoveries, relating chromosome aberrations in tumour cells to the type of growth, benign or malignant, have not often been justified. Cultures from most tumours have normal karyotypes and in leukemias, for example, the abnormalities found, except for the famous Philadelphia deletion in the chronic myeloid type, are not consistent or characteristic. Moreover, a mongol with leuk...
متن کاملCancer Cytogenetics: Methodology Revisited
The Philadelphia chromosome was the first genetic abnormality discovered in cancer (in 1960), and it was found to be consistently associated with CML. The description of the Philadelphia chromosome ushered in a new era in the field of cancer cytogenetics. Accumulating genetic data have been shown to be intimately associated with the diagnosis and prognosis of neoplasms; thus, karyotyping is now...
